Generate and upload Augmented Design (non-sparse) using the new design interface.

In the Design tab’s new interface, you can now generate the randomization or upload a design file for Breeding Trial experiments using the Augmented Design (non-sparse) in the new Design tab. A step-by-step guide in using the new interface can also be found here.

Copy BT experiments whose randomizations were generated using the new design interface.

Breeding trial (BT) experiments that used the new Design tab interface, whether for non-sparse or sparse testing, can now be copied via the EC data browser. However, this feature only works in full when the design was generated in EBS, i.e., basic, entry list, design, protocol and site can be successfully copied. On the other hand, experiments with uploaded designs can only copy up to the entry list.

Upload design files using the new template.

In the Design tab’s new interface, an improved design template can be downloaded from the Upload modal window. In this new version of the design template, the PLOT NO is replaced by the PLOT CODE, which is a required column when uploading a Partially Replicated (Sparse) design or an Alpha Lattice (Non-Sparse) design.

View updated info panel when using the new design interface.

After toggling to the new design interface, the info panel displays an updated notification to inform users that only the feature to regenerate designs via Experiment Manager is left unsupported. This also means that users can now copy experiments and add new occurrences to breeding trial experiments which used the new design interface.

Clearer error messages.

Multiple error messages that were previously displayed together are now properly separated into lines, so these can be read easily in the error panel.

The following actions can now be performed reliably in EC without issue:

  1. download the template using the old interface and use it to upload design files,

  2. expect to see the design result preview,

  3. copy a breeding trial experiment that used the new Design tab interface, such that the plots are successfully created,

  4. view the error message for failed randomizations using sparse testing,

  5. generate randomizations that include all of the entries in the experiment,

  6. upload a design file in the old design interface, and

  7. generate randomizations for Breeding Trial experiments using the On-Farm Trial (OFT) stage, such that (a) the Across Environment Design data field is not visible and (b) only the Incomplete Design and RCBD are available for selection under the Design data field.

Experiment Manager (EM) 2025 Quarter 1 Release Notes

Add occurrences to BT experiments that used the new Design interface.

More occurrences can now be added to breeding trial (BT) experiments that used the new Design interface to generate randomizations for non-sparse testing. After adding the occurrence/s, users will be asked to choose which parameter set will be used for the new occurrence/s. This is supported for the following designs: Alpha Lattice, Partially Replicated, Augmented, Row Column, RCBD (OFT and non-OFT), and Augmented RCBD.

Currently, this feature cannot be used for experiments whose randomizations came from uploaded design files.

Download mapping file for Hiphen.

Users can now download a mapping file from EBS that can be uploaded and used for Hiphen devices. Hiphen is a set agricultural imaging tools that enable digital plant assessment. The downloaded file is in CSV format containing the required values for uploading to Hiphen.

Faster loading times when editing occurrences.

As you edit your occurrences, you can now expect a faster performance in features such as viewing all occurrences, generating planting instructions, and adding new occurrences.

Pop-up notifications are enhanced.

More informative pop-up notifications are now enabled across the tool’s features. You can expect these when you:

  1. use the “select all” checkbox for the occurrences. The pop-up notification lets you know how many occurrences you can select at once, as set by the administrator (view the demo here),

  2. download printout reports and be informed to wait until the process finishes, and

3. try to harvest plots/crosses from an occurrence, where you only have read access (view the demo here).

The following actions can now be performed reliably in EM without issue:

  1. generate plot and entry codes without any unwanted characters, such as hyphens,
  2. download Metadata and Plot data file for all of a program’s occurrences with the TRAIT DATA COLLECTED status,
  3. selecting all occurrences after sorting by plot count,
  4. successfully transition the status of an occurrence from CREATED > MAPPED > PLANTED
  5. view the row and column block numbers as part of design parameters,
  6. view accurate cross parent information
  7. access the Download Occurrence Metadata and Plot Data page, and
  8. download Field Book files only when users have system access to do so.

Additionally, data managers and administrators can now configure the tool’s occurrence selection limit via the database management tool.
