EBS 24 Q2 release notes

Domains

Covering the development period of April to June 2024, the EBS Quarter 2 version focused on enhancing data visualization and analysis in Breeding Analytics and streamlining the genotyping request process in Service Management tools. Aside from enabling more cowpea and soybean harvest use cases in Core Breeding, this domain’s contact data is now sourced from a centralized and authoritative tool in Core System.

Breeding Analytics

Breeding Analytics Platform

The following are applied across Breeding Analytics tools: more efficient display of program choices when selecting one from the program data filter and, after an hour of inactivity, users will be automatically logged out.

Statistical Design Models

SDM improvements support Core Breeding’s Experiment Creation tool, specifically the randomization processes in the Design tab. In this quarter, non-sparse designs are improved for Alpha-Lattice, Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD), Augmented RCBD, and Partially Replicated (P-Rep). The latter’s design definition is also updated to remove the requirement for the rep information. Additionally, error notifications are provided when uploading RCBD design files containing both Rep and Block columns. This is because, for non-sparse and sparse testing, RCBD only requires either the Rep or Block values, but not both.

Phenotyping Data Manager

Data visualization for traits with at least one good or questionable data point is now supported in the Box Plot, Histogram, Scatter Plot, and Heatmap tabs, while enhanced graph colors are also featured. Aside from outliers, good and questionable data can now be suppressed in the Trait Table. The Box Plot tab supports suppression of upper bound and/or lower bound trait values. Any changes in the data updates the generated box plot graph.

Analysis Request Manager

A quicker way to select all latest finalized jobs for a multi-occurrence analysis request is now enabled in the Experiments tab. Features surrounding download functionalities were also enhanced as extracting BLUPS from single-occurrence analyses (SOA) is supported, more descriptive file names are provided, and files and their data are better organized.

Molecular Data Analysis

When viewing genotype data, a better user interface is implemented on the data browser, toolbar, and tabs. An info panel containing summarized information on the genotype data is also featured.

Core Breeding

Germplasm

Germplasm management for EBS administrators is enhanced by the feature to delete failed transactions in the Create tab and update germplasm states in bulk via upload. On the other hand, regular users can now generate printouts in the search results data browser.

Inventory Search

The data browser can now be filtered by MC (Moisture Content), MTA_STATUS (Material Transfer Agreement Status), and RSHT_NO (Routine Seed Health Testing Number).

Inventory Manager

Seed and package record management for EBS administrators is enhanced by the feature to delete failed transactions in the Create tab.

Experiment Creation

In Breeding Trial experiments, the upload and validation of unspecified designs for sparse and non-sparse are upgraded. A template for sparse testing design is now also available in the Upload Design Array modal window. Currently, multiple parameter sets must be in one uploaded file. Other improvements include the use of Core System’s CRM tool to populate the Site tab’s contact person data field and the updated message to notify users that entry deletion is limited to those that have not been used in crosses or designs.

Experiment Manager

Management of experiments is even better with background processes enabling users to quickly save more than 20,000 plots to a list and use printout templates relevant to the current program filter. Exporting files is also upgraded with more informative notifications and relevant data columns.

Data Collection

An enhanced user experience can be expected from the plot subtab’s data browser, in terms of navigation, display, and customization. More importantly, computed trait values are now automatically recalculated after suppressing data from its parameter/s.

Harvest Manager

More harvest use cases are enabled for the cowpea (CWP) and soybean (SYB) programs. Specifically, five (5) use cases for crosses and advanced nurseries are supported for the former, while seven (7) use cases for generation and crossing nurseries are implemented for the latter. Additionally, germplasm attributes of harvested rice plots now match its parent’s. These attributes include the Germplasm Year, Material Transfer Agreement (MTA) Status, and Origin.

Core System

Contact Relationship Manager

The tool houses an upgraded data browser, where creator and modifier information is now reflected when searching for individual contacts and institutions.

Organization Units

A more responsive user interface can be expected when viewing and editing unit information.

User Management and Printouts

User creation and management can now be done via an upgraded data browser, where creator and modifier information is reflected.

Service Management

Request Manager

When defining the required service/s for a genotyping request, data fields are now more intuitive and are based on the selected purpose of the request.

Genotyping Service Manager

Laboratory managers can now combine requests with different purposes into one batch. The tool has also improved its integration with Marker DB, which enables an easier management of selected and available markers.

Batch Manager

Viewing marker group and assay information is now supported, allowing laboratory managers to review such details before sending the batch to the service provider.

Marker

Viewing and editing marker groups are now supported.
