The Second International Symposium on Data-driven Intelligent Breeding in Maize, held on August 27–29, 2025, and hosted by the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (FAAS) in Fuzhou, China, highlighted how digital innovation is reshaping the future of crop breeding. Representing CGIAR’s Breeding Resources (BR) Digital Solutions team, Andre Moretto and Jack Lagare presented the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) in a keynote session, alongside other services designed to strengthen global breeding networks. A demonstration of the platform was also shared during the event and can be viewed here on YouTube.

EBS is designed with breeders at its center. Guided by FAIR data principles and a commitment to simplicity, the platform transforms complex breeding information into practical insights that support informed decision-making, expedite breeding cycles, and enhance contributions to global food security. As highlighted in his related LinkedIn post, Andre reflected that his work across agriculture, aerospace, and defense has always been driven by one vision: helping diverse teams align, collaborate, and deliver meaningful impact. Presenting EBS at FAAS was another milestone in that journey—bridging innovation and practice to empower breeders worldwide.
The symposium also marked an important step toward stronger collaboration between FAAS, CIMMYT, and the BR Digital Solutions team. Together, these partnerships are helping unlock the potential of advanced digital tools, improving data management, and fostering innovation across breeding programs.
CGIAR and BR Digital Solutions warmly thank the FAAS team for their hospitality and leadership in advancing the conversation on intelligent breeding.
