A two-week Knowledge Exchange Program (KEP) was hosted by the Enterprise Breeding System’s (EBS) adoption team at the International Rice Research Institute Headquarters (IRRI HQ) from 13-24 January 2025.
Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija — A week-long Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) training was held at the Department of Agriculture Philippine Rice Research Institute (DA-PhilRice) Central Experiment Station (CES) from 20-24 May 2024. A total of 14 participants composed of Science Research Specialists from the Plant Breeding and Biotechnology Division (PBBD), including a data manager and computer programmer, attended the tailored training sessions, which are part of the EBS adoption process as PhilRice transitions to use EBS as its breeding management system.
Breeding and Research Services (BRS) Senior Director, Dr. Sharifah Syed Alwee, returned to the International Rice Research Institute Headquarters (IRRI HQ) to spearhead the first BRS general meeting on 01 February 2024 at the IKS Network Commons. The meeting was attended by members of the Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) team and IRRI’s laboratory services: Grain Quality and Nutrition Services Laboratory (GQNSL) and Genotyping Service Laboratory (GSL) teams.
The Enterprise Breeding System’s (EBS) Internal Services (IS) team conducted Engineering Capacity-Building Sessions from 15-25 January 2024 at the International Rice Research Headquarters (IRRI HQ). The series of sessions was attended by EBS staff based in IRRI HQ, including some colleagues from the Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT).

To stay abreast of industry standards and emerging practices, software developers and Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) designers attended the Philippine Software Industry Conference (SOFTCON) on October 25-27, 2023 at the SMX Convention Center Aura and Decode 2023, cybersecurity conference, organized at EDSA Shangri-La on November 14, 2023.
The Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) booth was a hit at the 6th International Rice Congress (IRC) held on 16-19 October 2023 at the Philippine International Convention Center Reception Hall. Through IRC, EBS aimed to connect and network with leading rice researchers, partners, and representatives for a food-secure future.
The Enterprise Breeding System’s (EBS) Breeding Analytics, Data Management, and Software Development (BDS) cluster at the International Rice Research Institute Headquarters (IRRI HQ) sent select members to attend the Philippine Society for Talent Development’s (PSTD) three-day Training Facilitation Certification Program held in Pasig City from 3 to 5 October 2023.
The Enterprise Breeding System (EBS) was showcased at two important events in 2023, including the National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems (NARES) – International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) breeding network’s Annual Joint Advancement Meeting in East and Southern Africa and the Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative’s (AFACI) advancement meeting at the IRRI Headquarters.
Development of EBS is guided by the needs of its users, both current and future.
