⚡ EBS September Highlights

ARM-BIOFLOW Integration

Phenotypic Analytics (PA) updates collectively deliver a more stable, transparent, and efficient analysis experience across EBS and Bioflow.

Reliable Data Conversion: Improved Bioflow-to-EBS data flow with automated RData-to-CSV conversion, secure S3 storage, and notification systems for completed analyses.

Accurate Data Display: Fixed missing Trait, Entry Name, and Residual columns in ARM, ensuring users see complete analysis results from Bioflow.

Improved Job Management: Ensure unique job outputs, correct statuses, and proper handling of BLUP/BLUE estimates.

Consistent Environment Setup: Environment levels are now automatically formatted to prevent errors in Bioflow exports and analysis pipelines.

Cleaner User Experience: Residual plots are hidden for Bioflow where not applicable, with clearer job action buttons and error messages for canceled or completed requests.

Stronger Bioflow–EBS Integration: Verification and multi-trial compatibility improvements ensure more seamless and accurate single-trial analysis viewing in ARM.

Analysis Request Manager (ARM)

Analysis Request Manager (ARM) updates enhance data visibility, ensure consistent analysis tracking, and strengthen integration between EBS and Bioflow.

Improved Experiment Insights: Added computation and display of the Coefficient of Variation (CV) in SOA results, helping users easily assess experiment reliability and data quality.

Enhanced Documentation: Updated the ARM Business Rule document for clearer guidance on analysis workflows, result tabs, and status handling.

Seamless Bioflow Integration: Fixed issues with saving STA results from Bioflow to EBS, ensuring smooth data flow and accurate job creation.

Interoperability (IOP)

Interoperability (IOP) updates ensure a more connected and transparent workflow across EBS and Bioflow platforms.

Improved Data Visibility: Experiments shared with the Analytics program are now visible in Bioflow via BrAPI, ensuring smooth data exchange.

Enhanced System Integration: Strengthened EBS–Bioflow interoperability, allowing users to access and analyze shared experiments without missing data.

Statistical Design Models (SDM)

Statistical Design Models (SDM) improvements strengthen trial design accuracy, streamline file handling, and enhance overall reliability across EBS Breeding Analytics workflows.

Stronger File Validation: Randomization file uploads now undergo strict entry matching, with clear error or warning messages for mismatched entries.

Smarter Trial Setup: The local check field is now auto-filled based on design type, reducing manual input and setup errors.

Clearer Layout Guidance: New warnings help users avoid invalid field row selections in partially replicated designs, improving layout accuracy.

Reliable File Uploads: Fixed RCBD upload errors in MEE, ensuring smooth randomization uploads for breeding trials.

Updated Design Framework: Database and documentation have been refreshed to align with the latest Breeding Analytics design standards.

⚠️Breeding Analytics Known Limitations

These are known tool limitations. Workarounds are available, and fixes are scheduled for upcoming releases to improve reliability and enhance the user experience.

ARM (Single-Occurrence)

  • Slow loading (~1 min) when selecting occurrences; performance depends on data size and network.
  • Some jobs remain stuck in “Processing.”
    Workaround: Run not more than 20 traits or jobs per analysis request. Fix in next sprint.

ARM (MOA)

  • “Void” jobs can still be included in MOA results.
  • MOA error may appear if weight values are blank or missing.

Molecular Data Analysis(MDA)

  • Datasets with approximately 500 samples by 300 markers may load slowly or fail to start due to no background processing.
    Planned: Background job handling and progress updates coming this year.
  • F1 Verification in MDA may show a 424 Failed Dependency error due to authorization key issues.

SDM-API

  • Missing “entry type” or “entry role” fields are not yet validated during upload.
    Fix: Field checks and defaults scheduled for next sprint.

Experiment Creation (EC)

Experiment Creation (EC) improvements and updates make setting up experiments faster, more consistent, and more reliable.

✅ Fixed UI width problem of the design dropdown, which prevented the user from selecting a design

✅ Updated design templates and configurations for better accuracy in experiment setup.

✅ Improved file upload templates and corrected headers for sparse and non-sparse designs

Experiment Manager (EM)

Experiment Manager (EM) improvements and updates ensure experiments are managed more efficiently with fewer errors and complete, accurate data exports.

✅ Fixed bugs affecting data export and printout visibility, ensuring all traits and templates now display correctly.

✅ Improved experiment file downloads, allowing users to retrieve full and consistent data for each occurrence.

✅ Corrected data inconsistencies in CSV files and improved notifications for multi-occurrence downloads.

✅ Addressed permission issues to ensure collaborators can only access allowed actions.

Cross Manager (CM)

Cross Manager (CM) improvements simplify cross-data management, enhance flexibility, and ensure consistency across programs and roles.

✅ Introduced new and improved API endpoints to manage crossing data, making it easier to add, edit, and delete cross records.

✅ Enhanced the Intercross feature by adding new variables (e.g., fruits, flowers, seeds) and role-based configurations for better data control.

✅ Enabled download and upload of Wishlist files for Intercross, improving flexibility for users working with cross-lists.

✅ Added validation to improve accuracy during uploads and prevent duplicate or incorrect data.

✅ Standardized configuration names and dropdown options for a more consistent user experience across experiments.

Data Collection (DC)

Data Collection (DC) updates make data uploads and photo handling smoother, faster, and more reliable—especially when managing multiple experiments or large files.

✅ Fixed issues where uploads for multiple occurrences failed or caused timeouts, improving speed and reliability.

✅ Enabled Fieldbook image upload and download features, allowing users to attach photos to their data collection records.

✅ Improved validation rules to prevent upload errors and incorrect data mapping.

✅ Enhanced file download features so users get complete and accurate datasets.

BrAPI Integration maintains full compatibility with connected tools and prevents data loss during imports.

Harvest Manager (HM)

Harvest Manager (HM) fixes and updates make harvest operations more intuitive, accurate, and adaptable to different crops.

✅ Resolved naming and validation issues during harvest, including crop-specific errors for maize and rice.

✅ Fixed cases where users couldn’t harvest or correct methods due to missing permissions or incorrect data validation.

✅ Improvements to the management of Harvest Manager user cases and configuration records have been made through the implementation of the Admin tool Configurations Consolidator.

Seed Inventory (IM)

Seed Inventory (IM) update gives admins smoother access and makes shipment records more reliable and aligned with production systems.

✅ Updated system logic to allow admin users to access the tool without needing program-specific membership.

✅ Improved data handling for outgoing shipments by ensuring RSHT data is stored and retrieved consistently.

Trait Manager (TM)

Trait Manager (TM) makes it easier and faster for users to locate traits accurately, regardless of how they search for them.

✅ Fixed a problem where searching for traits using abbreviations or names returned incomplete or inconsistent results.

✅Enhanced the search tool to recognize various identifiers such as abbreviations, labels, and descriptions.

Breeding Program Manager (BPM)

Breeding Program Manager (BPM) updates ensure breeding programs always show the correct and most recent data, improving accuracy and clarity for users.

✅Updated the system with the latest breeding pipeline data for more accurate program information.

✅Corrected an issue where Forage pipelines appeared under Rice, ensuring each crop now displays its proper pipeline.

These are known tool limitations. Workarounds are available, and fixes are scheduled for upcoming releases to enhanced reliability and user experience.

Experiment Creation

  • Package Selection: Inactive or discarded packages may still appear for selection.
    • Workaround: Verify package status before use. Update in progress.

Experiment Manager

  • Germplasm Code: Missing in exports.
    • Current Action: Field renaming under review.
  • Templates: Some printout templates are not visible for certain programs.
  • Cross Table: Does not update automatically after entry replacement.
    • Workaround: Refresh Crosses Browser manually.
  • Downloads: Some buttons and traits are missing in exports.
    • Current Action: Config validation ongoing.
  • CSV Inconsistencies: Duplicate/missing entries in exported files.
    • Current Action: Replication in progress.
  • Multi-occurrence Files: Download errors.
    • Current Action: Verify and retry.
  • Data Misalignment: Inconsistent headers for planting/management data.
    • Current Action: Data under review.

Data Collection

  • Time Series Upload: Only one occurrence uploads when files contain multiple.
  • Workaround: Upload files per occurrence. Fix planned in a future sprint.

BrAPI

  • Field Data Import: Plot information may be missing in the new import UI due to a technical mapping issue.
    • Workaround: Use the old Field Book import UI. Fix under collaboration with PhenoApps.

Seed Inventory

  • Admin Access: Admins require program membership to access the IM tool; RBAC alignment is planned.
  • RSHT Data: Data not visible in the Shipment Outgoing tool; update to seed_data table in progress.

Batch Manager (BM)

Batch Manager (BM) has been improved to make plate navigation effortless and improve performance, so users can manage and edit data faster with fewer interruptions.

Easier navigation: Plate navigation arrows now work seamlessly, allowing users to edit beyond the first 10 plates.

Improved performance: Enhanced internal delete function for greater system stability and consistency.

MarkerDB (MDb)

MarkerDB improvements give users better control and precision when managing marker data, making selection and exports simpler and more efficient.

Smarter marker management: Added checkbox selection to download only chosen markers in CSV format for faster data handling.

Improved group creation stability: Fixed duplication issues when creating new marker groups.

Request Manager (RM)

Request Manager (RM) improvements ensure smooth and more reliable request creation, so users can connect with service providers without workflow delays.

Smooth request creation: Fixed validation issues with service provider assignments, ensuring users can create requests without errors.

Reliable lab selection: Resolved GraphQL errors—users can now select any service provider smoothly.

Accurate data tracking: Corrected the “Number of Samples to Collect” variable during F1 Verification for proper functionality.

⚠️Service Management Known Limitations

These are known tool limitations. Workarounds are available, and fixes are scheduled for upcoming releases to improve reliability and enhance the user experience.

Batch Manager

  • The vendor result upload is not stable and should not be used for the time being. We are engineering a new data transfer solution to resolve the stability issue. This solution is planned to be released as part of the Q4 2025 version.
  • Occasional timeouts when viewing genotype data.

GIGWA

  • Result file generation may fail with Error 500, affecting file downloads and status updates in Request Manager and BA-MDA.

Place Manager (PM)

Place Manager (PM) updates ensure accurate mapping and data integrity.

✅ Ensures that only valid (non-voided) geospatial values are shown, improving the accuracy and reliability of location-based information.

✅ Improved accuracy in displaying geospatial data for more reliable location information.

Printout Service (PS)

Printout Service (PS) improves document accuracy, stability, and consistency across environments.

✅ Fixed Wheat printout visibility issue and improved IRRI Proforma Invoice accuracy.
✅ Enhanced template import stability and updated IRRI shipment documents.
✅ Standardized IRRI BPQ 10 form with better layout and automatic unit conversion.
✅ Restored template visibility and ensured stable connections across environments.

Workflow Engine (WE)

Workflow Engine (WE) updates increase flexibility and compliance in document workflows.

✅ Enabled file uploads/downloads at all workflow stages.
✅ Updated legal shipment templates and added SMTA-ID for improved traceability.

Core System Platform (CSP)

Core System Platform (CSP) improvements simplify permission management and improve usability.

✅Simplified permission filtering with support for programCode for faster configuration.

Data Grid

  • Limitation: “Select All” applies only to items on the current page; selections do not persist across pages.
    Workaround: Perform bulk actions per page.

  • Limitation: Display of total selected items not yet available.
    Workaround: Manually verify selections per page.

Workflow Engine – Outgoing Shipment (IRRI)

  • Known Issue: Some users may experience delays when generating MLS legal documents.
    Update Coming Soon: System improvements are planned to make this process faster and more reliable.

  • Known Issue: RSHT_NO values may not appear for certain shipment packages.
    Update Coming Soon: A fix is planned to ensure all package details display correctly.

User Management (UM)

  • Known Issue: The Data Collector role may currently see more tools than intended in the Maize PRD environment.
    Update Coming Soon: Access controls will be adjusted to reflect the correct permissions.

⚡ EBS September Updates

EBS 25.09.17 [Hotfix]

  • Restored the missing “Traits” tab for non-admin users, ensuring proper access to Trait Protocols.

EBS 25.09.15 [Hotfix]

  • Resolved admin user issue preventing plot creation for alpha lattice (“CIMMYT”) randomizations.

  • Restored admin visibility of all experiments in EM without requiring program membership.

  • Fixed multiple occurrences display issue for ICN-type experiments in the SITE tab.

  • Corrected missing default values and site options that blocked admin users from finalizing experiment creation.
